Mississippi River Hills
Association
Welcome to the Mississippi
River Hills of Missouri! Nestled in the counties of Jefferson, St.
Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Perry, Cape Girardeau, and Scott, the
Mississippi River Hills is two things: a place, and association of
people who work together to promote and protect that place and the
products produced there.
"The
Taste of Place"
The French call it “terroir” (pronounced “tare-wahr”). The term can
be translated as “the taste of place.” Used for centuries in Europe
to enhance appreciation for products based on the ecological and
cultural characteristics of an area. The term can be described as “a
partnership between person, plant, and environment to bring
something unique into the world. The soil and climate set the
conditions; the plants, animals, and fungi respond to them; and then
people determine how to bring out the goodness of these foods and
drinks.”
The Mississippi River Hills Association (MRHA) is a group of people
who recognize these differences in their products, be it wine,
tomatoes, or beef, and we enjoy sharing these differences with you.
We encourage visitors, people
interested in discovering the real flavors of rural America – the
history, the river and the great outdoors, the arts and culture, and
the best foods and wines that the Midwest has to offer.
